Halloween costumes: make your own. There are lots of possibilities when it comes to making Halloween costumes for your family.
Your family could dress as rabbits. Simply take the one piece fleece sleepers and sew tails on the back. Design bunny ears that fit onto headbands and paint your faces to look like rabbits. Finish these costumes with carrot trick-or-treat bags made from orange and green felt. You can cut these out with pinking shears and secure the sides with hot glue.
Another Halloween costume make-your-own project for the family is the telephone costume. You will need a box for each family member. Paint these boxes to look like telephones and attach dials and receivers.
Maybe your family would enjoy candy corn costumes. You cut a front and back out of cardboard in the shape of a candy corn. Make one for each person and paint to resemble a candy corn. Attach the sides with wide elastic and make matching candy corn bags from felt.
One of my favorite make-your-own Halloween costumes is call the "Sack Family." To make members of the "Sack Family" use a large brown grocery sack for each person. Let each family member draw a face on their sack. The guys may want to use Brillo pads for beards or hair and the girls can use yarn or shredded crinkly paper. When we made these costumes we used small aluminum pie plates as hats for the girls and put mums in the top of each one. It is quite funny to see an entire family of sacks coming down the street or entering a party. People make comments about the "Sack Family" as if you can't hear them!
